Visakhapatnam: In a significant move towards positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leader in education and technology, the state is establishing three Knowledge Cities in Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati. These cities will feature an AI University, a National Centre for AI, and five multidisciplinary universities dedicated to education and research, according to Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh.
Speaking at the Davos Congress Centre in Switzerland during a conference on “Building the Ecosystem for Intelligent Industries,” Lokesh stated, “These initiatives align with our vision of Golden Andhra 2047.” He emphasized using AI to reduce electricity costs, optimize grid management, and address challenges in healthcare and climate change.

Plans for Aviation Growth
Lokesh also proposed establishing a Regional Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub at Visakhapatnam airport and suggested creating a world-class international airport within the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) area. The move aims to boost the aviation sector and attract international traffic to Andhra Pradesh.
IT and Industry Partnerships
During discussions with Wipro’s executive chairman, Rishad Premji, Lokesh highlighted the rapid development of IT operations in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati. Wipro plans to invest Rs 8,000 crore in manufacturing and R&D in the coming years.
Hitachi India MD Bharat Kaushal also announced the setup of multi-skill development centers in Tirupati, Vijayawada, and Kakinada. These centers will foster skills in advanced technologies, supporting the state’s vision for technological growth.
