300 injured; many feared dead in Coromandel Express accident

Many people feared killed and more than 300 persons injured in a freak accident after a passenger train hit the derailed coaches of another train in Odisha’s Balasore district some time ago. Many were trapped in the accident under the coaches that were off the tracks. As per the details, train no. 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express rammed into 12864 Yashwantpur-Howrah Superfast Express and it is said that the third train which is carrying goods was involved in the accident as well.

As per the latest information, 15 coaches of Coromandel Express came off the tracks while two coaches from Yashwantpur-Howrah Superfast Express. Hospitals in and around Balasore have been alerted and 60 ambulances have been mobilized. 100 NRDF are already in action along with the state counterpart. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted that she is personally monitoring the issue. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told Revenue Minister to go personally to the accident spot and foresee the rescue operations.
